Why are businesses choosing Red Gorilla® as their sustainability partner?

The word ‘sustainability’ is widely used across business. But what does it mean, and why would you opt to work with a business that operates sustainably?

As a member of SEDEX (Super Ethical Data Exchange), and with a formal Social Responsibility Policy, Red Gorilla® chooses to operate sustainably. That means they take full responsibility for the impacts of their decisions and activities on society and the environment.

To have a real impact on our world, Red Gorilla® believes that businesses preferring to adopt sustainable practices across their facility should work together with suppliers, customers, communities and other stakeholders, to widen the impact, and in so doing secure a better future for everyone.

What is sustainability in business?

This refers to a company's strategy and actions to reduce adverse environmental and social impacts resulting from business operations in a particular market or markets.

Simply put, it means that a business is committed to meeting the needs of the present day, without failing to protect the needs of future generations. That involves managing waste, protecting natural resources, minimising pollution and environment damage, encouraging biodiversity, as well maintaining supply chain standards, health and safety compliance, and operating ethically and responsibly in relation to employees.

Raw material choices are key

Red Gorilla® products are particularly known for their strength, user design features and performance.

Using waste (or recycled) materials where possible is the Red Gorilla® way!

Recycling reduces the need to grow, harvest or extract new raw materials from the earth.

Far too much waste is sent to landfills these days, when it could be usefully recycled and repurposed,” said Dean Cox, Managing Director of Red Gorilla®. “At the end of the day, sustainable production starts with prioritising the use of sustainable and recyclable resources, and that’s exactly what we aim to do.”

Raw material choices matter, but how materials are manufactured is also important

Red Gorilla® prefers to use high density polyethylene plastic (HDPE) in some of their product designs. This is considered a sustainable material as its recyclable, durable (minimising the need for frequent replacement), and its manufacture requires significantly less energy than the production of other plastics.

It's known that recycling HDPE can save up to 50% of energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 30%.

These core features create the conditions for environmentally responsible production and consumption.

Red Gorilla® also uses LDPE (low-density polyethylene) in some of its more recent products which can also be recycled and reused. Gorilla Plas® – Red Gorilla

Sustainability is a global issue and responsibility

Sustainability goes much deeper than reducing waste, monitoring production methods and emissions and making sensible raw material choices.

For a business to operate sustainably, it also needs to carefully manage the production and delivery chain through traceability, transparency and with involvement from its stakeholders.

As a member of SEDEX, What We Do at Sedex | Driving Ethical Business Practices - Sedex, a global technology company that specialises in data, insights and professional services to empower supply chain sustainability, Red Gorilla® aspires to make its global supply chains more socially and environmentally sustainable.

Through insight and intelligence, the mission is to invest in solutions that enable Red Gorilla® to continuously improve and monitor their environmental impact, social and governance (ESG) performance and outcomes, to meet their supply chain sustainability goals.

Acting sustainably is a business choice

What’s more apparent than ever in these challenging times, is how important it is for a business to think and act ‘green.’ It’s an investment in themselves, their future, but also in the environment and its future.
